What is it? Welsh Veg in Schools is an initiative that’s increasing the amount of organically produced Welsh vegetables served in primary school meals across Wales. Led by Food Sense Wales and Lantra Cymru, Welsh Veg in Schools works with more than 20 growers, 17 local authority areas and 5 wholesalers across Wales. The initiative covers the price gap between local, organic produce and standard prices through a nature friendly uplift payment. The guaranteed income and support have enabled growers to scale up, diversify crops and build resilience.
